Tax Deductible Status Received

The Friends of the Western Ground Parrot applied to the Australian Government some time ago to become a tax deductible gift recipient and has just recently received notification of it successful application. This will soon be reflected in a change in the fundraising page through the link to the Give Now website that the friends have set up. Once this has been completed, another new item will be posted both on the home page and here.

Fitz survey completed
9 June 2011

A nine-day field survey trip to Fitzgerald River National Park was completed on 1 June. The goal was to survey two sites with the park. These sites have been surveyed many times, the last time being autumn 2010. We are happy to report that the number of Western Ground Parrots at each of these sites appeared to be very comparable to the results of last year's survey. Although there has been no perceivable increase in the small population at each site,  neither has there been a decrease. Short and infrequent calls by the birds made our task difficult. The survey was supervised by Abby Berryman of the DEC Western Ground Parrot Recovery Project and run by the Friends of the Western Ground Parrot. Travel and camping costs for the five volunteers were subsidised by a DEC community grant, administered by the Friends group.
