Western Ground
Parrots
have a variety of calls. Usually silent during the
day, the
birds
call before sunrise and after sunset. Buzz Call The call can be heard up to 200m away. The buzz notes show up as a ladder on the spectogram. They are often followed immediately by a rising call or pause 8 level call. ![]() Pause 8 Level Call A level call consisting of four (very close together) notes with a distinct pause before the next set of four. A very rhythmic pattern often associated with a moving or flying bird. ![]() D Call (Drawn or Double Call) A rising call, strong and loud. Suspected to be a response call made only by the female. Often heard in groups of 3 or 4 slightly drawn out notes (D3 or D4) with a short pause between each group. Each note is actually a double note, only audible to the keenest hearing. ![]() Toot Call A level call. Sounds like a tooting steam engine. Can only be heard when bird is close. ![]() Copyright: The Department of Environment and Conservation in Western Australia has kindly made available the audio files on this page.
